Our History

Dr. Paulin Bélanger founded Bélanger Optometry Clinic 80 years ago. Soon after, he opened his office at the corner of De La Salle and Ste-Catherine-East in 1943, in his native neighbourhood.

Bélanger Optometry Clinic has undergone several transformations to meet the ever-growing demand of its clientele. Today, the clinic covers an area of 8000 sq. ft., while maintaining its personalized approach. Bélanger Optometry Clinic distinguishes itself as much by the competence of its optometrists as by its services at the cutting edge of technology.

OD, MSc. FAAO - Optometrist

Right after receiving a diploma in optometry from the Université de Montréal in June 2009, Dr. Alexandra Fraser (OD) immediately sought to expand her knowledge in low vision and pediatrics. Her career has led her to do internships in Stuart, Florida, and at the IRDPQ (Institut de Réadaptation en Déficience Physique de Québec) in Quebec City. She has acquired specific skill sets in pedo-optometry, orthoptics, and mainly in the examination and management of patients (children, adults, seniors) with visual impairment or legally blind. In 2013, she completed a Master’s of Clinical Sciences in visual impairment rehabilitation at the University of Montreal. She also became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) following the annual meeting of the AAO in October 2013.

She has the knowledge and skills to assess the resulting vision following an ocular disease (AMD, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy) or a congenital condition (pigmentary retinitis, Lieber's congenital amaurosis, nystagmus, albinism). She gives recommendations for corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses as well as adapted optical aids (magnifying glass, telescope, television) to help patients reach their full potential in terms of vision.

Today, apart from her private office practice with the Bélanger Clinic team, she is also a clinical officer at the Clinique Universitaire de la Vision in association with Institut Nazareth and Louis-Braille. She also holds an optometrist position at a pediatric clinic related to the Montreal Association for the Blind’s childhood and adolescence program.
